Overview

Reads Electric Co Pty Ltd is a long standing family business established in 1959 by Brian and Coral Read. Brian and Coral recognized the need for a proficient electrical repair service to shipping and industry in Western Australia and worked hard to ensure that customer needs were met. Over the course of years, the company provides significant services to the resources sector Australia wide, in addition to shipping and general industrial work.


The Reads Electric South Fremantle workshop services local base industry, Mining, Government and all West Australian Ports. The provision of an efficient reliable service to satisfy our customer’s needs and expectations has, and will remain our principal objective. To monitor our effectiveness we have performed extensive customers surveys, which have provided the information required in maintaining and improving on our market position.

The most valuable asset of Reads Electric is the trust that customers have in our expertise. This only comes from being in business over an long period of time. We have a wealth of experience and knowledge and are well known for performing high quality work.
 
 
 Our Management Team
 
 
Our current Management team has been carefully selected for their Technical and Management skills. The team represents approximately 140 years experience in the Electrical Repair Industry and 65 years service with Reads Electric. Our Management team has been structured and trained to provide cover for each position from within the immediate team and from other employees. Our training requirements are reviewed annually during our management review meeting. Key personnel details are as follows:


General Manager: Tony Harrison

Tony Harrison served an apprenticeship with British Electrical Repairs Ltd. in Southampton U.K as an Electrical Fitter/ Armature Winder. This was completed in 1974.  He then spent 18 months in research and development with British Aerospace. After spending some time overseas he rejoined British Electrical Repairs where he received the necessary training to obtain Branch Manager status. Tony joined Reads Electric in 1983 as Manager.

During his 32 Years in the electrical repair industry Tony has gained vast experience in all aspects of the trade. He is an Active member of the Industry Training Council and is the West Australian Electrical Apparatus Service Association representative for training and standards development. Major projects performed include removal, rewinding, refitting and commissioning of an 11.6 MW Power station Alternator for Mt Newman Mining.

Works Manager: Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson served his apprenticeship with D W Rewinds Ltd in North London UK as a winder / fitter. During this time he rewound all types of AC motors ranging from 0.37kw to 38 ton HV turbines, DC armatures to 5 ton, on-site rewinds to gearless lift motors, manufacture of high voltage coils and stator rewinds to 6.6KV, during his 14 year service he progressed to workshop supervisor overseeing 26 employees. Mark then spent 4 years as Branch Manager at APM Electrical

After leaving APM in 1995, Mark established his own company, MTS Industrial Ltd. He successfully grew the company over 14 years to 17 employees with an annual turnover in excess of $3.5 million. MTS Industrial Ltd was sold in 2009 when Mark decided to emigrate to Australia.    


Marine Supervisor: Robert Benn

Robert served an apprenticeship with Globe Engineering in Cape Town South Africa as an engineering electrician in the Marine Industry.  This was completed in 1991.  He was promoted to assistant foreman and later to foreman at Globe engineering.  During his employment at Globe engineering, he gained experience on all parts of electrical ship repair, including fault finding and repairs to crane controls, generators, switchboards and circuit breakers. 

Robert has also carried out new installations of accommodations on board ships and oil rigs, and supervised the electrical repairs of fire damaged vessels.  Robert joined Reads Electric in 2006 as a technician, and currently supervises all aspects of work performed on site.

Workshop Personnel

At Reads Electric we consider every employee as part of the team and key personnel. They are selected for their technical and team working abilities, and where necessary provided with extra training to meet our standards. Workshop personnel training requirements is continually monitored and reviewed annually. Future Management prospects are selected from our workshop personnel.
