A COMPLETE REJUVENATION FOR THE BURNT-OUT MACHINE

Process 3 is the first systematic design in which all the insulation components are selected not just for their intrinsic properties but also for their mutual compatibility, electrically, mechanically and thermally. A copolymerisation is achieved during the varnish cure, which develops each individual insulation to its peak performance. The technique has been successfully used for all types of machine up to 3.3KV 4000 HP high speed wound stators and DC armatures. The results are far better than those obtained by most manufacturers often using the same materials.

First we steam clean and bake the core to remove the soluble salts. Then we spray with Devolac Grey to help seal off the short leakage paths from each slot. Next step is slot insulation, followed by the winding wires, the interphase insulation, the sleevings, cables and the wedges. And once all this has been done the machine is flood dipped. Motors used on a North Sea project where their 9000 hours’ operation over three years provides an accelerated life test. This gives Ayrodev Process 3 a full class ‘F’ capability.

 

 
 

The capillary action shown in the illustration ensures that the machine is fully coated. After the dip the machine is put into the Ayrodev oven.

Insulation structures developed along these lines have stood up to temperature variations of minus 200 to plus 155 degrees Celsius on large cryogenic machines.
